津市役所へ表敬訪問。
出身地にある県庁と役所への表敬が一般的だが、大学連携と関連が強いと感じた三重県への表敬に変更。まだ任地に詳しくない私にはアフリカの稲作や食文化についての質問に答えるのは難しかった。そもそも稲作の状況や食文化はアフリカの中でも国や国の中でも環境によって様々なのだろう。現地人との情報共有が役に立った。

Courtesy visit to Tsu City Hall.
While it’s common to make courtesy visits to the prefectural office and city hall in one’s hometown, I changed it to a courtesy visit to Mie Prefecture, which I felt had strong connections to university partnerships. Since I wasn’t yet familiar with my assignment location, it was difficult for me to answer questions about rice cultivation and food culture in Africa. Rice cultivation conditions and food culture probably vary greatly even within Africa, depending on the country and environment within countries. Information sharing with locals proved helpful.
