中国科学院農業資源研究センターの皆さんとプロジェクトのキックオフミーティングでした。センターの位置する華北平原はコムギとトウモロコシの一大供給基地ですが、作物生産における水不足が深刻な問題です。華北平原の二毛作における水利用効率の向上は、大げさではなく世界の食糧問題に大きく貢献すると考えられています。本プロジェクトでは、東京農業大学の森田先生と山口大学の荒木先生と一緒に、華北平原の作物生産における水利用効率向上に取り組んでいきます。

I participated in a kick-off meeting of research project organized by the Center for Agricultural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Science. North China Plain where the Center is located is the major supply region for wheat and maize grains, and water scarcity is a serious issue for crop production. The improvement of water use efficiency in the maize-wheat double cropping system in North China Plain is expected to contribute greatly to the global food issue without exaggeration. In this project, I would like to work on the improvement of water use efficiency in crop production in North China Plain in collaboration with Professors Morita of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Araki of Yamaguchi University.
